There’s a raucousness to Adam Selman’s shows that feels vital. The crowds are the types who go wild. In the house on Thursday night, the Cobrasnake (alias the photographer Mark Hunter) was snapping away as if 2006 had never left us. The art-house types (there’s Casey Spooner) mixed with the Top 40 types (there’s the sultry R&B popette Tinashe). Why settle for just one great reference when you could have the whole lot? Adam Selman’s long been a bit of a magpie, aesthetically speaking, in recent seasons referencing a ’60s and ’70s nudist colony and, with his ongoing Le Specs collab, creating cat-eye shades inspired by Catherine Deneuve’s pair in The Hunger’s iconic opening.
